This stunning guitar is actually a refinish of a Line 6 Variax into a Maybury Offset body!

The customer loved the tech in their Variax, but was not very keen on the Pacifica style body that it was housed in. Having fallen in love with our Offset body, they approached us with a request to build them one that could rehouse their Variax electronics bar the pickups and make use of all of the original Variax hardware.

They wanted the guitar to be very light, so a solid swamp ash body was chosen and then the process of building the body started. After creating the initial Offset shape, the very complicated Variax route was free handed into the body, this included an internal imbedded chamber that had to be routed in through the side. The body was then given a front and back S-type style round over and body carve, before the stunning Blueberry burst finish was added.

Originally the Variax was a bolt on neck, however, the screw holes were filled and heal of the neck was sanded back before being glued into the body as a set neck. The addition of the set neck allowed for the heal of the body to rounded over to produce a much more comfortable guitar to play.

The final finishing touch was the addition of a set of Underfluked hand wound single coil pickups, which improved the tone of the guitar no end when being played without the Variax voice tech engaged.

All in all, we think that this refinish has more than met the brief, its maintained the overall feel of the original Variax guitar, but given it a complete face lift with a beautiful custom shaped body with a stunning burst finish and an improvement in tone.
